Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning

At St Christopher's, we have a wonderful outside environment made up of a small newly-planted 'forest school' area, an environmental garden, fruit and vegetable growing beds, an extensive playing field, an enclosed hard court for outdoor games and PE, and a trim-trail.

Outdoor Learning at St Christopher's embraces our vision of creating lifelong memories. We utilise our excellent outdoor environment to interweave Outdoor Learning in all areas of the curriculum, including Maths and English, because it has shown to improve engagement, resilience and children’s motivation in their learning.

We recognise that many of our children do not get outside enough to experience the outdoors and nature. Our recent visits by 'Wild Play' have enabled our children to have the opportunity to explore and learn outside, experiencing the seasons and changing nature around them. Children have benefitted from outdoor cooking sessions, shelter-building problem-solving, and the opportunity to learn how to use a range of tools outdoors whilst constructing for a purpose.
